Ex-Rangers whizkid Billy Gilmour has thrived since his Ibrox exit

Former Glasgow Rangers whizkid Billy Gilmour is best known for his time with Chelsea, the club that he has played for since the summer of 2017, but fans shouldn’t forget his football roots. The Scotland U21 international recently went viral after featuring in a hilarious clip with N’Golo Kante, who couldn’t understand his teammate’s Scottish accent, which left the youngster laughing in hysterics.

Gilmour, who is widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Scottish football, had trained with the Rangers first team prior to his departure. Despite Pedro Caixinha’s best attempts to convince him otherwise, he decided to take his chances at Chelsea instead.

The 19-year-old enjoyed something of a breakthrough season under Frank Lampard last term after the talented teenager burst onto the scene with a match-winning performance against Liverpoool.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Chelsea boss said:

“We’ve had a few of the young players come through this year, and that has given me great pleasure, as they are great to work with. They want to come in, they want to learn, and they’re like sponges.

“Billy has given me as much pleasure as anyone. When you look at Billy, he can be quite slight in terms of his size, he’s quite quiet, young and polite, but then you train day-to-day with him through the season.

“He moved over to the first team quite a while ago to train because he just had to, because he just trained at such a level. If you have a possession in training, or a small game, just simple passing, whatever, you talk about having the attitude there and getting the basics right.”

The £6.75m-rated ace even received praise from Roy Keane, with the former Manchester United midfielder admitting he looked like a “world-class player” after the famous win over the Reds.

Where is Gilmour now?

Rangers must be regretting their decision to sell the Scotsman for £500k as he has since thrived in what has undoubtedly been one of the best spells in his young career so far. Lampard handed him his first-team debut against Sheffield United in August 2018.

Gilmour then played six Premier League games last season, whilst he made three appearances in the FA Cup, and featured in the full 90 minutes against Jurgen Klopp’s side, where he completed two clearances, made two tackles and one interception in the entire game, as per SofaScore.

However, he suffered a knee injury which required surgery, and ruled him out of action for several months. So, it’s perhaps hardly surprising he has been tipped for a loan move away from Stamford Bridge in January. An unnamed football agent told The Athletic that he should leave on loan to play regular football.

There are no concrete links to Rangers at the moment, but could that change in the not too distant future? If anything, a straight swap would be beneficial for both clubs. The academy graduate would almost certainly be guaranteed regular game time whilst Chelsea wouldn’t have to worry about him playing every week.

Let’s face it, there won’t be many fans out there who wouldn’t love to see him don the light blue. Get it done, Gers.

Tottenham Hotspur: Fans gush over Son Heung-min footage

Loads of Tottenham fans have reacted to a post from the club’s official account showing footage of Son Heung-min giving an interview at Enfield.

Son spoke extensively about his military service and how it feels to be back training with his teammates. Spurs shared a clip on Twitter, with the caption “I’ve missed the guys. When I came back, I couldn’t stop smiling, like always!”

Last month, the South Korean returned to training for the first time since the nationwide lockdown began after completing national service with his home country. He impressed army officers and finished at the top of his class (Daily Mail).

As Son was ruled out with a broken arm in February, there is no doubt his return will give Jose Mourinho’s side a massive boost.

Indeed, the 27-year-old is the club’s second-highest goalscorer at the time of writing, only a goal behind star striker Harry Kane, and he has provided more assists than the England international up until now (BBC).

He has scored nine goals and created seven assists in the Premier League, taking three shots per game, averaging 1.4 key passes and attempting 2.3 dribbles on average (via WhoScored).

Unsurprisingly, lots of Spurs supporters gushed over Son’s latest “amazing” interview on social media, with one fan dubbing the video “fantastic”.

Manchester United: Fans rage as Antoine Griezmann considers Red Devils switch

The rumour mill at Manchester United keeps on spinning with seemingly no end in sight.

Man United have been pursuing Jadon Sancho for more than three years now, although recent reports suggest they are no closer to signing him.

Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann is considering a move to the Premier League, amid interest from United and Manchester City. According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by @ManUnitedZone_, the Frenchman wants to play in the Premier League.

After arriving at the Nou Camp last summer, the former Atletico Madrid forward has struggled for consistency this season. Griezmann, who plays as a second striker, has scored eight goals in 32 games in La Liga under Quique Setien. Furthermore, he has earned a below-par WhoScored rating of 6.9 for his performances up until now.

In comparison, the French World Cup winner bagged 15 goals in 37 appearances in his final season at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Both Manchester clubs have registered their interest in the 29-year-old, who is currently valued at £86.4m via Transfermarkt, as he could now leave Barca this summer. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear that Sancho remains his top priority in the transfer window.

As it stands, it is unlikely that the Red Devils will be able to afford both players, as Ed Woodward has warned that the board’s summer spending may be restricted as a result of the coronavirus crisis.

Loads of United fans blasted the “bang average” Griezmann as the news emerged, with one supporter tweeting that he is “overrated” due to his underwhelming statistics this season.

Everton fans discuss Allan transfer report

Everton fans have been left torn by a fresh transfer claim this week.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Toffees is the ‘most likely destination’ of Napoli midfielder Allan this summer as the Brazilian lynchpin could link up with his former boss Carlo Ancelotti.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to Goodison Park ever since Ancelotti was appointed back in December.

But it appears as if signing him would divide opinion amongst those in the blue ends of Merseyside with them debating the move on Twitter and Instagram.

Some would love to see him at the club, especially given the injury blow to Jean-Philippe Gbamin last week. The summer signing has played just 135 minutes all season and will now be out for another six months.

@theo_ath02: “Brilliant signing if we can pull it off. Slots into the midfield nicely”

@jakebone15: “Baller”

@paul.scanlan61: “That’s midfield sorted 💙

Allan, who is valued at £28.8m by Transfermarkt, has played just 24 times this campaign where he has averaged three tackles, 0.8 clearances and 0.7 interceptions across Serie A and the Champions League, via WhoScored.

The Greatest Bargains in Premier League history – How much did they cost?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

FranceFootball claim that Napoli could be willing to let him leave for €40m (£35.9m) this summer, but that sort of financial deal isn’t something that many seem to agree with at Goodison Park.

@longmorecolin: “Asking too much for his age as no sell-on fee. Plus wages mega so can’t see it happening.”

@ray.sherry3: “Meh 👍

The Toffees’ midfield is arguably their weakest position given how poorly exposed it was in the absence of Andre Gomes this term, so Ancelotti could well do with an addition or two in the role – even more so after Gbamin blow.

Bringing the Brazilian over from his old club makes a ton of sense, it just remains to be seen how the club will operate the transfer market this summer given the potential financial implications post-pandemic.

Sunderland suggested XI: 3 changes and a first league start for Benji Kimpioka

Sunderland are enduring a miserable run of form and some supporters probably wish that Phil Parkinson could make 11 changes to the side which lost at home to Burton.

Several players are underperforming at the moment and it seems that whichever side takes to the field, and in whatever formation, the performance and end result is the same.

There is a distinct lack of cutting edge but also a clear lack of creativity, which is why their performance dipped after falling behind against the Brewers – a fact Parkinson alluded to himself.

That is a big worry, particularly as there aren’t many who can be drafted in to try and fix the issue, and that means the buck may ultimately stop at the manager, with fans already fed up with him 11 games into his tenure.

Sunderland dominated possession against Burton once again with a 59% share of the ball, and therefore if they can add a little creativity or more directness to their play they should be able to improve on the goal front.

That is their biggest issue, with 13 goals scored in 11 games under Parkinson. With that in mind, here is how they should line-up in order to get the better of Gillingham.

Watch Sunderland Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Gills will be well aware of Sunderland’s approach having played them twice in the FA Cup over the last month, edging a 1-0 win in the replay at Priestfield a few weeks ago.

Despite defeat, the Black Cats seemed to contain their threat well, and but for a slightly fortunate equaliser from Olly Lee they would have progressed in the initial meeting at the Stadium of Light.

That was a rare game in which Aiden McGeady seemed to have the opposition’s number, so Parkinson will hold out hope that he can replicate that display and hand his team a win in the process.

However, for that to happen others will need to perform, and starting Benji Kimpioka for the first time in the league could be an inspired decision in that regard.

[ad_pod ]

He scored the equaliser against Coventry and has the pace to be a nightmare for full-backs, and with a point to prove he should have the drive and desire to lift the Black Cats, which is what they need in the midst of this poor run of results.

Chris Maguire has disappointed at times this season but his absence was notable on Tuesday, and without Jon McLaughlin between the posts Sunderland lack a little leadership along the backline, and therefore his inclusion could lead to an upturn in performance.

Parkinson currently has to pick from those available to him, which is why it is vital he is given ample opportunity to bring in his own players in January.

Wolves fans praise Max Kilman’s performance against Sheffield United

After a difficult start to the season – it took them seven games to win their first game – Wolves look to be back on track. They are now in the fight for a Europa League place and have not lost a game in their last six in all competitions. Going into their match against Sheffield United and Molineux, they would have been hoping to get one over on a side they are fighting with for a European spot – as surprising as that is considering the Blades are newly promoted. In the end, though, they were only able to pick up a single point, with Matt Doherty levelling proceedings after Lys Mousset’s opener. Still, it keeps them in sixth place in the Premier League. It was a special day for 22-year-old Max Kilman, who was making his first start for the club at centre-back in the Premier League. The club’s supporters were very happy with his display, and they took to Twitter to share their thoughts. You can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.

Arsenal’s potential XI against Vitoria in the Europa League

Arsenal face Vitoria in the Europa League this week.

Unai Emery’s men, of course, lost 1-0 to Sheffield United on Monday and will need to bounce back when they return to European competition.

They have, thus far, recorded two comfortable victories on the continent, thumping Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 and beating Standard Liege 4-0.

Both games have featured a number of youngsters, with Emile Smith-Rowe, Joe Willock and Bukayo Saka all playing against Frankfurt, while Gabriel Martinelli scored twice against Liege in a game in which Kieran Tierney made his debut.

Football FanCast has taken a look at the XI Emery should select…

Bernd Leno will surely be given a rest, as Emiliano Martinez has played in both European games thus far, keeping two clean sheets.

Both Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney were left out of the XI to face Sheffield United so they should be included here, if only to build match fitness.

Rob Holding, too, must be restored to the XI after he was also absent at Bramall Lane, while one would expect Shkodran Mustafi to take his place too, having played against Liege.

In midfield, Lucas Torreira and Dani Ceballos played well together against the Belgian side and deserve another chance.

It makes sense to bring Mesut Ozil into the fold, too; he has played just once in the Premier League this season and starting him – even if he is going to be substituted in the second-half – would be a show of faith from Emery.

Bukayo Saka should play on the left, despite struggling against the Blades, while Nicolas Pepe should be given the chance to build his confidence following a horror miss on Monday.

Up front, Emery should keep Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang well-rested and play Martinelli once again.
